Intraocular Lens Insertion (click above image to load video)

  • The capsular bag should be distended with a viscoelastic material to maintain a deep anterior chamber and to protect the endothelium
  • Foldable acrylic intraocular lens is then inserted through the temporal clear corneal insicion using specially designed lens injector
  • The lens will slowly unfold in the capsular bag
  • Proper placement of the lens haptic needs to be assured
  • It is essential to remove the viscoelastic material to avoid postoperative complication such as increased intraocular pressure and myopic shift due to its trapping within the IOL and posterior capsule (capsular blockage syndrome)
