Intrastromal Corneal Ring Segments (ICRS)

Refractive surgical procedure which produce a predictable alteration of the recipient corneal curvature by inserting two segments of an intrastromal refractive device into cornea stromal channels.
Indication: eyes with refractive errors from -1 to -4.50 D.
Side effects:
- Peripheral corneal haze, which is usually not visually significant
- Lamellar channel deposits of collagen and proteoglycan due to the wound healing process
- Microperforation or tear of Descemet's membrane may occur during dissection of the stromal channel
- Irregular astigmatism has also been reported
- Other rare complications such as persistent focal corneal edema and poor visual acuity have prompted explantation of the device
